Details
Acoustic jars are ceramic vessels used in some Medieval churches to improve the sound of singing. This item was made as a spare for an experimental archaeology project and is in perfect condition, and it was just surplus to requirement.

 Materials

earthenware

Dimensions

Approx 285 mm tall, 145 mm diameter, width with handle/spout 170 mm

Production

We have hand-made this replica pot in our studio in beautiful Northumberland based on an original artefact. It has been to a temperature of between 800 & 1000 Centigrade, using the same techniques that the original potters employed. This process often results in variations in surface colour and texture, emulating original ancient pottery and giving each pot its unique character.
