Greek Satyr Oil Lamp
Handcrafted Replica Hellenistic Oil Lamp – Inspired by an Original from Cyprus
Details
This charming oil lamp is based on an original found by archaeologists in Cyprus, now part of the collections at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Made during the Hellenistic period, the lamp is beautifully decorated with rosettes and a satyr’s head—and we think he is rather fabulous!
Part human and part horse, Satyrs are often associated with Dionysos, the fun-loving god of wine, music, dancing, and revelry.
This lamp is both a beautiful artefact and a functional piece of history, offering a unique way to experience ancient lighting techniques.

Health & Safety
Before using your lamp, you must read the operating and safety instructions.
- Burn ONLY OLIVE OIL in your lamp.
- DO NOT use modern lamp oil or any other flammable liquids.
- Place the lamp on a stable, non-absorbent, and non-flammable surface, far from any sources of heat.
- Always snuff out the flame—never blow it out, and never use water to extinguish the flame.
- DO NOT attempt to move or pick up your lamp while it is lit.
- Ensure there are no flammable materials above or near the lamp.
- DO NOT leave the lamp unattended while it is lit.
- Keep the wick trimmed very short to ensure a clean, bright flame and reduce the risk of fire.
- This lamp is not a toy—KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
- Use this lamp at your own risk—we cannot take responsibility for accidents or injuries caused by its use.
- Extinguish the lamp by snuffing it out with a metal spoon.
Instructions for Use
- Adjust the wick so that it does not protrude above the edge of the wick aperture.
- Fill the lamp with olive oil through the filler hole in the centre. (Allow the wick to soak for 1 hour before lighting for the first time.)
- Light the lamp.
- If the flame produces smoke, shorten the wick by gripping it with tweezers through the filler hole and gently turning it round to rewind the wick into the aperture. (Do not adjust while the lamp is lit or the wick is hot.)
