Details

Marchpane was a must-have at any Tudor banquet; from simple wafers made using ceramic stamps to elaborate sculptures, marchpane was expected to make an appearance. 

The Tudor period in Britain lasted from 1485 to 1603, during which the craft of marchpane decoration became a highly skilled art form, with influential partons commissioning ever more elaborate marchpane sculptures to wow banquet guests.  

In 1615 poet and author Gervase Markham wrote a book called The English Huswife in which he stated that marchpane should hold “the first place, the middle place, and the last place” in a banquet. 

To help you add this fashionable Tudor delicacy to your table, we have created this range of functional marchpane stampers, which can also be used with marzipan, firm shortbread recipes and sugar paste.
