Handcrafted Willendorf Figure – A symbol of endurance and feminine power

This replica is based on a limestone original found at Willendorf, Austria, and dates to around 24,000 to 22,000 BCE. Discovered on a terrace about 30 metres above the River Danube, she is one of the earliest known representations of the human form. Our version has been crafted to echo the look and comforting weight of the original, making her a truly satisfying object to hold and contemplate.

Created by mammoth hunters during the last Ice Age, small sculptures like this were often deliberately deposited in the landscape, possibly as offerings to ensure fertility or prosperity. While we can only guess at their true spiritual and cultural meaning, the sheer number of these female figures found across Europe highlights the central role of women in early human societies.

Each replica has been handmade and smoke-fired, just like the famous ceramic figures from sites such as Dolní Věstonice. This ancient firing technique creates a beautiful variegated finish, meaning no two figures are ever quite the same.

Although often referred to as the "Willendorf Venus", this modern nickname is misleading. These figures pre-date the Roman Venus by tens of thousands of years, and their purpose, symbolism, and cultural context would have been entirely different. Rather than placing Roman ideals on prehistoric art, we honour her as she is: a powerful, beautiful woman of Willendorf.

Pick the Lucky Dip option if you want the fates to choose your figure. Each one is beautiful in her own way, so you cannot go wrong.

Special Edition STOMA Collection
Each of these figures will be handcrafted to order for this special collection. You may need to wait up to 90 days for your piece. A percentage of proceeds will go to the charity Chameleon Buddies (Registered Charity Number: 1199430).

Materials
Smoke-fired terracotta

Dimensions
Approx. 115 mm tall

Variations
Please note that the colour and surface mottling vary with each figure due to the unpredictable nature of smoke firing. When selecting a colour variation, we will match your Venus to your preference as closely as possible, but each is truly unique.

Production
This replica has been handmade in a small pottery workshop in Northumberland, using techniques inspired by prehistoric ceramic traditions.
