Details
Drinking, dancing and chasing Nymphs were favourite pass times of Satyrs. As companions to the Greek God of wine Dionysus, they are very much associated with raucous merriment and festival spirit.
Often depicted with a horse's ears, tail and legs, they are relatively easy to recognise due to their permanent and exaggerated erections. It's a look that'll certainly turn heads!
Their pot-bellied, lustful chief Silenus, son of Hermes, was a minor deity who, like his Satyrs, is associated with fertility, drunkenness and the woodland. He also tutored the young Dionysus, who clearly learned the art of ecstasy (and possibly a few drinking games) off him.
This crouching Satyr replica was initially created for a private lecture that was to take place in the Corycian Cave, Delphi, which has a rich history of religious rituals and ceremonies. Statues such as this were probably left as offerings to the gods.
Slight Second - The figures marked as seconds have some cracks that do not affect the item's strength but might be visible when the item is on display. This is a common feature in ancient pottery originals and the item photographed represents the worst craking on an individual item. Most of the figures have lesser craking. Grab yourself a bargain.
Production
As with the original, these replicas have been made by hand pressing clay into a specially made mould, where the clay remains until it is dry enough to be removed. A back is added before the whole sculpture is hand-trimmed, and finishing details are added.
It has been fired to a temperature of between 800 & 1000 Centigrade to emulate the same techniques the original potters would have employed nearly two thousand years ago. This process often results in variations of the surface colour and texture, as is common with the original Greek Pottery and gives each piece its unique character.

Then you can send it back at your own cost in an unused condition within 30 days, and we'll refund you for the cost of the item or items returned. If you include your order number with the returned package, that will speed things up. Please leave any original packaging intact.
