This elegant Roman-style flagon features a cheerful Latin motto painted around its belly, adding both charm and decorative flair. The text reads “Bibe Felix”, which can be translated as “Drink Happy”, or perhaps “Felix Bibe” – “Happy Drink”. Whichever way you read it, the inscription is clearly a good luck charm, intended to bring fortune and joy to those who raise it in a toast.

The presence of this inscription suggests the vessel was designed to hold a beverage, and it has been crafted in the style of Oxfordshire Redware—a fine Roman pottery type that takes its name from the large quantities of similar pottery found in Oxfordshire, where a major production centre was active during the Roman period.

Production – Vindolanda

This replica has been handcrafted in Northumberland by Potted History, based on an original Roman artefact. It has been fired to a temperature between 800°C and 1000°C, closely replicating Roman pottery techniques. The surface colour and texture naturally vary during firing, resulting in a unique character to each piece.
