Handcrafted Replica Darlington Anglo-Saxon Urn
Details
This stunning Anglo-Saxon urn, featuring oval bosses and intricate stamped decoration, is a faithful replica of an original artefact unearthed in Darlington.
The Anglo-Saxon settlement that later became Darlington began on the banks of the River Skerne. Originally named Dearthington, meaning "the settlement of Deornoth's people", this early community laid the foundations for the town that would grow around it.
This elegant urn is a fine representation of iconic Saxon pottery, with hand-stamped and incised decorative elements that reflect the artistry of the period.
Materials
- Earthenware, reduction fired
Dimensions
- Height: Approx. 135 mm
- Diameter: Approx. 125 mm
Production
This urn has been handcrafted in our Northumberland studio, following authentic historical techniques to ensure an accurate and high-quality replica.
- Each piece is individually made, using tools and methods that replicate those of Anglo-Saxon potters.
- The reduction firing process creates unique variations in surface colour and texture, just like the original artefact.
- As with all handcrafted pottery, each urn is one of a kind, making yours truly unique.
